Essential oils are derived from the leaves, flowers, bark, berries,
or roots of a plant. They are very concentrated so a little goes a long
way. Essential oils have many wonderful properties that are used for therapeutic
purposes. They are naturally fragrant and used in aromatherapy, cosmetics
and perfumery. Following is a list of some of the essential oils we use
in our products.
Anise Seed - This oil has been used for centuries as an antiseptic. It has also been used by fishermen to mask the human scent. Tradition has anise seed being hung on a bedpost to restore lost youth: made into potpourri and placed around the house to ward off evil or the evil eye: and sprinkled inside the pillow to keep nightmares away. The scent is warm and spicy resembling licorice.
Bergamot - A light citrus/floral. Balancing and encouraging to the spirit. Has been used to fight fatigue caused by stress and anxiety. Bergamot has been used to treat sores, burns, blemishes, eczema amd psoriasis.
Chamomile - Sweet, fruity herbal. Very calming and tension relieving. Uses include: muscle relaxant, pain reliever, fever reducer, wound healer, cramp reliever, and digestive stimulant.
Clary Sage - Sweet nutty herbal. Good for inflamed skin,
asthma, coughing, exhaustion, labor pains, sore throat and stress.
Clove Bud - Warm and spicy. Very stimulating and uplifting. It is said to stimulate the memory and help with bouts of depression.
Eucalyptus - Camphor like. Very cleansing and stimulating. It is an antiseptic, antiviral, anti-fungal. Good for respiratory problems, congestion, joint and muscle pain, and migraines.
Fir Needle - Smells like a Christmas tree! Very calming. Good for respiratory problems and chest colds and coughs.
Geranium - Rosy sweet fragrance. Very uplifting and romantic. Used to care for eczema, cuts and skin inflammations, and a good topical ingredient for sores that are slow to heal.
Grapefruit - Fresh sweet citrus. Good for arthritis, aching muscles, cramps, coughs, nausea, poor circulation and general aches and pains.
Lavender - Fresh clean floral. Very calming and soothing. Lavender is an antiseptic, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory. It promotes skin healing without scarring. It has also been used for centuries to relieve headaches.
Lemon - Fresh strong citrus. Very refreshing and uplifting. Good used as a skin cleanser as it stimulates excretion and waste through skin pores.
Lemongrass - Sweet lemony and grassy. Refreshing and stimulating. Helpful for clearing the head and relieving fatigue. It is also an effective toner for the skin as it tightens the pores.
Orange - Fruity citrus - Relaxing and cheering. A good anti-depressant.
Patchouli - Kind of musty scent. Very uplifting and calming. It is an anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, anti-fungal. Good for chapped skin, acne, dermatitis and eczema. Also good for aging skin and wrinkles.
Peppermint - Strong menthol. Very refreshing and stimulating. Often recommended for easing migraines. It helps to clear the sinuses. Also clears the brain and helps with mental stimulation.
Rosemary - Camphorous and pine like. Rejuvenating and uplifting. It is an antiseptic and helps with respiratory problems, oily skin and hair, stiff and sore muscles. Can stimulate circulation and helps combat acne, dandruff and excessively oily skin.
Spearmint - Warm and minty. Very calming, relaxing and uplifting. It is a proven anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. It has been used to relieve hiccups, nausea, and indigestion.
Tea Tree - Strong powerful scent. Very cleansing and stimulating. It is an antiseptic, anti-fungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory. Good for burns, bites and stings, acne and fungal infections such as athletes foot.
Ylang-Ylang - Sweet and flowery. Arousing and uplifting. Known as an anti-depressant and very relaxing to the body and spirit. It is said to calm anger, lift depression and stabilize mood swings.
